BIOGRAPHY

  Paula Almerares is the daughter of Hector Almerares and Leonor Baldasari. She began her studies with the renowned soprano Myrtha Garbarini and afterwards with Janine Reiss in Paris.  She debuted in 1991 at Teatro Argentino de La Plata in Romeo and Juliet (Gounod) Opera, where she later played Musetta in Puccini's La Boheme. In 1993 she sang with Alfredo Kraus at Teatro Colón in The Tales of Hoffmann. She debuted In Europe in 1995 at Teatro La Fenice in Venice with Orfeo et Euridice and at the Festival of Galicia La scala di seta. She also took part in the Summer Festival at the Greek Theatre of Epitauro and sang Beethoven's Ninth Symphony at Teatro Colón conducted by Zubin Mehta. She played at the Metropolitan Opera in New York with The Barber of Seville conducted by Abel and Bruno Campanella, accompanied by Juan Diego Florez. She reopened Teatro Avenida in Buenos Aires with Placido Domingo, and sang with the London Symphony Orchestra in Saint Sebastien Le martire Debussy, conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas.  She continued hes career without interruption with the following operas: Nina in Chérubin Jules Massenet opera at the Theatre of Cagliari, Fiorilla in Turkish Il in Italy at the Rome Opera and Romeo and Juliet at Teatro Argentino de La Plata. La Traviata; The Tales of Hoffmann; Turandot (playing the character of Liu) at Luna Park in Buenos Aires and in the Grand Auditorium of Mexico City; La Gazza Ladra, at Teatro Comunale of Bologna in Italy; Lucia di Lammermoor and Mahler Symphony No. 8 at Teatro Argentino de La Plata and Lucia di Lammermoor in Uruguay with great success. She was acclaimed for her work in Giulio Cesare by Handel at Teatro Argentino, receiving the best national and international critics, with the Mtro Facundo Agudin and in Massenet's Manon at Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires with the great master Philippe Auguin, with great success and acceptance by the public and specialized critics after being chosen for the pre-opening of Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires with Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with Carlos Vieu. She starred Fausto (Gounod) at Teatro Argentino, Verdi's Falstaff at Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires by the end of 2010 season, among others. She is regularly invited by Claudio Scimone with whom she toured throughout Europe with works of Mozart, Handel, Albinoni, Mercadante, among others. She sang with the Argentinean National Symphony the Mass Tango of Bacalov and Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with Mtro. P. Calderon. She has performed in: Regio Torino, San Carlo in Naples, Verona Philharmonic, Ville de Marselle, Carlo Felice in Genoa, Verdi Trieste, Massimo of Palermo; Pittsburgh and Washington operas, Cagliari Opera, Rome Opera. She was conducted by, among others,  Julius Rudel, Lorin Maazel, Daniel Oren, Michael Tilson Thomas, Neville Marriner, Claudio Simone Romano Gandolfi, Giuliano Carella, Maurizio Arena, Nello Santi, Reinald Giovaninetti, Stanislaw Skrowaczewski, E. Villaume Reinaldo Censabella, Perusso Mario Enrique Ricci, Donato Renzetti, Pedro I. Calderon, Claudio Simon. She sang Strauss's last four songs conducted by Mtro. Isaac Karabatchevsky in Teatro Municipal de Rio de Janeiro and Auditorio Sao Paulo. She played Desdemona in Otello at the Municipal Opera Theater of Córdoba and at Teatro Argentino de La Plata. In Teatro Colón she starred the operas Falstaff and  L'elisir d'amore and gave an unprecedented recital with Karin Lechner that earned her the recognition of the specialized critics. She interpreted the work Estaba la Madre by Luis Bacalov at the Néstor Kirchner Cultural Center. In 2015 she participed of the Lyric Gala of Teatro del Libertador in Córdoba, Argentina and sang together with the Orchestra School of Florencio Varela for the International Day of Children's Rights and was part of the musical "Chopin and Schumann” by Rubén Darío Martínez in Teatro de la Comedia de la Provincia de Buenos Aires In 2016 she was a special guest for the Gala of the 130th Anniversary of the Municipal Theater Coliseo Podestá and in Teatro Colón she played the rol of Donna Anna in Don Giovanni Opera. She participated in the Lyrical Gala of the Teatro Colón Foundation in the Golden Hall of Teatro Colón. She performed the 4th Symphony of Gustav Mahler conducted by Mtro. Isaac Karabatchevsky in Sala Sao Paulo, Brazil and was specially invited to re-open Teatro Coliseo Podestá in a concert for May 25th Argentinean celebrations. She performed a recital at Teatro el Sodre in Montevideo and sang The four last Songs (Strauss) with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Teatro Colón.
